April is National Donate Life Month, a time to reflect on the lives healed through organ, eye, and tissue donation. Thanks to the generosity of donors and their families, thousands of people get a second chance at life every year.
Pochie underwent a liver transplant when he was only eight months old. Now 5 years old, he can play soccer, play with his Legos, and paint. He knows that he was really sick as a baby and that he received the Gift of Life from a little boy who became his hero.
Nearly 15 million people have already registered as organ and tissue donors in California and Nevada but the need is still great; 22,600 people await a life-saving organ transplant in the states.
The easiest way to get into the spirit of Donate Life Month is to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor at the DMV or DonorNetworkWest.org. If you have already registered, be sure to share your decision with everyone you know and encourage them to sign up as well. One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and a tissue donor can heal more than 75 others.
You can also show off your Donate Life colors on National Blue and Green Day, April 21st.
