Help us make the Donor recovery Center a reality

Our 2025 Fundraising Initiative to Save Lives

As part of the Donor Network West Foundation’s mission, we are funding a comprehensive Donor Recovery Center that will do three things to immediately support donor families and transplant recipients

1

offer a private healing space

It can be very difficult for donor families to find comfort during a time of loss. A private family recovery space offers loved ones a time for reflection and goodbyes in a dignified setting. It gives them space for comfort and emotional support while allowing for respectful coordination by compassionate staff.
2

Increase the number of transplants

Based on national data, Donor Network West anticipates a 13-33% increase in donation rates with a dedicated center. Recovery centers serve a broader area (up to 3 hours away), extending the opportunity for more potential donors. With the new center, we could increase our ability to save lives with an additional 120-200 donors annually.
3

Provide more streamlined transplant processes

With a comprehensive center, streamlined operations can improve organ viability, which is critical for recipients. With less than 1% of donors meeting the specific medical criteria to donate their organs and tissue, the need is great for ensuring viable organs are successfully transplanted.
Empower Hope

Watch to see how we plan to make a change for donors and recipients.

More Hope Realized

Bringing Everything Under One Roof

Donor Network West currently operates from four locations in San Ramon, California. The new facility will consolidate our footprint and help us foster even more collaboration, streamlined efficiency, and most importantly, quicker transplant processes.

The visionary piece of this new facility will be the donor recovery unit. Equipped with the latest advancements in technology, this unit will be optimized for maximizing the viability of donated organs and patient care.

We understand the immense generosity and profound loss that accompanies organ donation. The new center will prioritize the well-being of donor families by offering a dedicated space for them to grieve, process, and find solace.

“I lost my 11-year-old daughter Jacqueline in 1996 and made the decision to donate her organs. She would have wanted me to do so. In 2009, my nephew Danny, 32, passed away. He was a registered donor so we honored his request. There were significant delays getting into the OR in my nephew’s case and I believe if we had a recovery center this would have significantly helped. We would have had more access to our wonderful, passionate staff working on the case. We would have had a place to talk and grieve as a family. I tell my story in the hope that you will do all you can to help families like mine during one of the worst times of our lives. I truly believe this will support donor families and save more lives.”

This Life-Saving Project Needs Your Support

We are embarking on a transformative journey to create another beacon of hope.

We are planning to develop and fund a state-of-the-art donor recovery center that will be located at 2409 Camino Ramon in San Ramon, CA, and serve our western states.

This isn't just a new building; it's a symbol of a brighter future for countless patients desperately waiting for life-saving transplants. But, the current reality is stark. The number of available organs falls tragically short of the immense need. Donor Network West's vision for this new center is a powerful response to this challenge.

Meet with an organ recipient to hear firsthand what it means to receive a second-chance at life.

Discuss the vision with our Foundation Executive Director, Bubba Paris and our CEO, Dr. Janice Whaley.
