Steady Growth Fuels Donor Network West’s Impact in Organ and Tissue Donation
Reno, Nev. (June 19, 2025) – Following its milestone achievement of reaching 100 organ donors in March, Donor Network West, the federally-designated organ procurement organization serving northern Nevada and northern California, announced recent reports with data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) that show the organization has accomplished record growth over the past five years. Since 2019, Donor Network West has experienced a 44% increase in donors and a 28% increase in organs transplanted. As a trusted partner to its vast network of 175 hospitals, including some of the top transplantation centers in the country, the organization served more than 14 million individuals in 2024.
“Each new milestone is a reflection of the continued impact Donor Network West makes across its entire service area and the thousands of people we are here to serve,” said Dr. Janice Whaley, president and CEO of Donor Network West. “As one of the largest OPOs in the nation, the hardworking team of caring professionals at Donor Network West leads with a passion for achieving our mission to save and heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.”
Donor Network West is intentional in serving as a thoughtful advocate for the diverse communities it represents—60% of its service area includes individuals from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The organization’s leadership firmly believes it should reflect the richness of the communities it serves. To that end, Donor Network West invests significant time and resources into engaging diverse populations ensuring that every individual and family, regardless of background, is informed about the transformative power of organ donation and is given the opportunity to both give and receive the gift of life.
Currently, 110,000 people in the U.S. are on the national transplant waiting list, with more than 700 in Nevada alone. Every donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of 75 others through tissue donation.
Donor Network West urges community members to consider the impact of organ, eye and tissue donation and take action by signing up as organ donors. For more information, or how to join the organ donation registry, visit DonorNetworkWest.org.
