Donor Network West created the Donor Family Comfort Blanket Program for organ and tissue donor families to keep them warm and comforted during their hospital stay. Families can be in hospitals ranging from a few days to weeks with their loved one.

We welcome individuals and groups to crochet, knit, quilt or make fleece blankets for these families. The blankets are used by the families themselves or laid over their loved one. The families take the blankets home for continued comfort and to remember the lifesaving gift their loved one gave to others through donation.

  • Baby size batting 45″ x 60″
  1. From each of the 1/4 yd cuts, cut one 4″ WOF strip and one 5″ WOF strip.
  2. Cut the focus fabric into four 6″ WOF strips.
  3. Cut 3/8 binding into 5 2.5″ WOF strips.
  4. Layout fabric according to the following diagram.
  1. Lay batting down on the wrong side of the backing and adhere with spray adhesive or Misty Fuse or Pellon 807.
  2. Mark a straight line on the batting width wise on the batting in the middle. Place the middle rows right sides together on the line and sew 1/4″ seam through the batting and backing.
  3. Open up the two sewn fabrics and press. Lay the next row towards the top with right sides together and sew using a 1/4′ seam. Open this seam and press.
  4. Continue until you reach the top of the quilt and finish the bottom of the quilt the same way. Stitch down the top and bottom row to hold in flat.
  5. Trim the quilt. Sew on the binding.

To begin, chain multiples of 14, plus 3 for turning.

Repeat between ** ending last rep with 2 tr into the top chain of the chain-3 previous row. Repeat row 2 for length required.

  • 16 sts (2 repeats) = 31/2″; 24 rows= 4″ in pattern.

Check your gauge. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

  • With A, cast on 179 sts. *Work Rows 1-3 with A
  • Rows 4-11 with B, Row 12 and Rows 1-3 with A,
  • Rows 4-11 with C, then Row 12 with A.

Repeat *for color sequence until there are 13 B stripes, end Row 11, then work Row 12 and Rows 1-2 with A. Bind off in Knit with A.
